This is the view north up George street from the Cahill.
If you look closely you can see the arch of the harbor bridge in the distance.
I like this shot for the the lights. The bright car and street lights illuminating the old facades and reflecting off the damp street.
This is where the value of a compact zoom shows through, there is no cropping or digital zoom here.
The previous shot was at 35mm (35equiv), this one is at 200mm (35equiv).
I love the visual effect of colored lights reflecting on water.
This is the Sydney Harbor bridge from the Opera House podium. The bright colorful bit center right is Luna Park.
This is the Centerpoint Tower (aka Sydney Tower, aka AMP Tower) at night.
This is one of those shots I keep coming back to, I still haven’t figured out how to capture it, maybe I need to try HDR.
I note that this is taken with a 45mm (35equiv) focal length. I’ve recently acquired a 50mm prime with an APS-C sensor, so maybe I’ll retry it with that.
I like the various tones of light in this shot.
To get good image quality out of the compact sensor while preserving the natural lighting tones I needed to use 1 second exposures. Even at this time of day passing cars were frequent enough that I needed a dozen attempts.
What you don’t see here is the way this is all in motion, I probably should have grabbed some video, will try and remember that next year.
This is the conservatory of music. I particularly like how they’ve worked the light scheme in with the architectural elements of the building.
This fountain is at the north end of Hyde park.
It’s actually a bit of a nuisance to capture the flowing water on this one as the pool below the fountain has a bunch of comparatively bright lights around it. That’s what is causing the glow at the bottom.
I think I need to find water that is moving more, both these fountains consist of relatively stable beams of water, I suspect I want more spray.
I’m still not quite there with water and light. I know theres something there I want to show put I haven’t quite pinned down exactly what I want to show or how to capture it.
Still I’m reasonably happy with how this came out.
Amusingly I don’t actually remember exactly where this fountain is, I know it’s somewhere in the central city / hyde park / domain area, just not sure where.
For those of you looking for a reason for my lack of posting or some sort of assurance of more regular posting, all I’ve got to say is that work has been consuming all my brain time and hopefully it’ll get better now, but I wouldn’t count on it.
