Mount Solitary

Almost anywhere along the Katoomba / Leura cliff top affords the visitor this magnificent view of Mount Solitary across the Jamison valley.

Mount Cook National Park Pano

Mount Cook National Park Pano

This is another view of Mount Cook (to the right of center) across lake Pukaki. This shot is taken somewhat further along the road from the last one and so more of the mountains in the park are visible.

Lake Ruataniwha Panorama

by tolomea on April 9, 2010

Lake Ruataniwha Panorama

This was taken from the road north, just before Twizel.

Amusingly I was originally drawn by the booms, but once I had the tripod setup what really grabbed me was the vista. This will definitely be going into the banner rotation.

The water color in these is genuine, not an artifact. It’s caused by all the water in this area being glacier runoff.

P.S. These are really yesterdays photos, I had a run in with a bottle of bourbon that delayed them somewhat. Todays will go up this afternoon.

Remarkables

by tolomea on April 1, 2010

Remarkables

The Remarkables Ranges, aka Mordor. Next year I’ll try and arrange things so I can get a photo of them with a snow cap.

This is not a crop of the last photo. It is actually a separate pano sweep done under high zoom, so it’s a lot more detailed than the same section of the last image.

I think I might put this in the banner rotation.

P.S. both these photos are stunning fullscreen, so stunning in fact that I’m going to make the other one my new desktop.

Table Bay

Table Bay

Table bay lies between Cecil and Walter peaks. This is what it looks like from the Earnslaw, with the aforementioned ominous clouds.

Clouds over the Remarkables

Closer in towards Queenstown we got this remarkable view of clouds over the peaks of the Remarkables.

Eyre Mountains crop

Eyre Mountains crop

This is a crop of the previous photo.

It draws out the details that get lost in the scale of the full panorama. I particularly like the layered clouds / mountains / water.

Eyre Mountains across Wakatipu

by tolomea on March 18, 2010

Eyre Mountains across Wakatipu

The Eyre Mountains lie to the south west of Lake Wakatipu. This is the view of the mountains across the southern arm of the lake from the devils staircase.

This panorama was shot from the same vantage as the last photo.

The pano was stitched from 6 separate photos. The day I took this it was really windy down that end of the lake, so we had figured on a short stop and I left the tripod in the car. Shooting a sequence like this in heavy wind without a tripod is somewhat difficult. Fortunately there are no foreground features, so camera movement doesn’t effect the alignment much.

The observant will notice that this image is already in the banner rotation.
