Bunker Road Tunnel

Bunker Road Tunnel

This is the one lane Bunker road Tunnel. Bunker road connects from Sausalito across to the old fortifications at Bonita Point.

I particularly like this shot for the effect the light and the change in angle of the tunnel has created.

The Road Home

Yeah, so even I can be a sucker for a cliche shot.

Lindis Pass

Lindis Pass

And that brings us to the end of the Queenstown section. From here there’s a few shots of the trip north back to Christchurch, followed by a couple of Andrea’s sister and nephew and then it’s back to Sydney stuff.

This panorama was taken at the summit of the Lindis pass.¬†We love it up there, it’s so barren and empty, yet majestic. And then at night the stars come out and it’s just spectacular.

Speargrass Flat

Speargrass Flat

One of the other random things we like to do while around Queenstown is going driving through the back roads in the Speargrass Flat area between Queenstown and Arrowtown.

The area is full of small rural properties with a moderate number of small art galleries, but generally we are just there for the drive.

The Road to Queenstown

The Road to Queenstown

After a few days in Invercargill visiting with my family and celebrating Mum’s birthday we headed north to Queenstown.

Queenstown is our favorite place in New Zealand, not that there’s anything wrong with the rest of it, it’s all spectacular (except maybe that Auckland bit), but Queenstown is the most spectacular.

We go back every year and last year we got married there, so it’s only appropriate that we’d be back yet again for our first anniversary.

This is the final stretch of road leading to Queenstown. This section of road known as the devils staircase skirts the edge of Lake Wakatipu for some 30km.
