Central Sydney from the Harbor.

The central city viewed across the Harbor, I don’t have much else to say about this one.

Summer in Sydney

Summer in Sydney
GXR P10, 84mm (35equiv), ISO 100, 1/1150 sec, f/4.6

I love the way this came together, it was a total spur of the moment shot. Fortunately I had the camera out an on as the Opera House passed behind Ankita redoing her hair.

Anzac Bridge East Pillar

by tolomea on May 15, 2011

Anzac Bridge East Pillar
GXR P10, 28mm (35equiv), ISO 100, 1/620 sec, f/7.0

This is the east pillar of the Anzac bridge. The Anzac bridge is the second most prominent bridge in Sydney after the harbor bridge.

It’s name derives from the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and it has at the top of it’s two pillars an Australia and a New Zealand flag. The east pillar carries the Australian flag.
As a Kiwi it’s a touch humbling to see the New Zealand flag on the west pillar, it’s rather difficult to imagine an Australian flag flying on the Auckland Harbor bridge.

Anzac bridge 1of2

This years work Xmas party was held on a boat.

I have a half dozen or so interesting photos from the outing. To protect the guilty I’ll be sticking mostly to photos of artistic or secnic value.

Burn off

Burn off
GXR P10, 300mm (35equiv), ISO 100, 1/440 sec, f/5.6

There is an oil refinery on the southern side of Botany bay. Every so often they need to burn stuff, I presume excess volatile gasses or some such. Anyway it’s quite visible from work.

Possum

Possum

I’ve mentioned previously that we frequently cut across Hyde park and that it’s home to a variety of wild life. Well here’s a Possum, having a little midnight snack (Possums are nocturnal so our day is his night).

Sunset Colors

by tolomea on May 8, 2011

Sunset Colors

We get some nice sunsets around here. But this one particular evening set a new standard for vibrant colors. The magic ingredient seems to have been the light rain that we were experiencing at the time.

Sunset

Sunset

Another pretty sunset from the window at work.

This view no longer exists, the right half is now occupied by a new 25+ storey tower.

Building reflection.

by tolomea on May 4, 2011

Building reflection.

This large glass building sits on the south east corner of world square. From this one particular angle it provides a great reflection of the apartment complex that now rises above the fascade of the old Sydney Tourists Hotel.

As someone who spent most of their life in eartquake prone New Zealand (much of it in Christchurch) that apartment complex creeps me out. I’ll just never be comfortable with the notion of a 40 storey building built out bricks.

Incidentally work is about a block further down the road on the right.
